Lena Leiko is a self-taught artist born in the dynasty of artists in Russia, past 7 years she has lived and worked in Amsterdam. How did you get into art?
Art has always been a part of my family, shaping my world from childhood. From early days of drawing and sewing, my journey took a turn towards photography in 2009. Over the years, my passion evolved into abstract macro photography, where I explore a wide range of materials and techniques.
How would you describe your style? What makes your work special?
Usually, I capture a surface area of 5x5 centimetres with macro lenses. The process includes not only the objects in the images but also a complex variety of skills: working with light, physical filters, and building beneficial frame composition. By capturing tiny objects for scaled pictures I evoke the idea of space, where every molecule is a part of gigantic celestial bodies. How do you go about developing your work?
I love to experiment with materials, light, and camera settings that give me extraordinary insight into endless possibilities to create new images and surprise the viewer.Who or what influences you?
My inspiration comes from cinematography, music, ballet, the cosmos, and science.
Make us curious. What are you planning to do next?
It’s my second solo exhibition, which is coming soon in March and will take place in Amsterdam. However, my next goal is to expand my skills across various mediums and become a multidisciplinary artist.Learn more about the artist:
