How did you get into art?
My journey into art began with a natural inclination towards creativity and a strong desire to express myself through visual arts. From an early age, I found joy in transforming my ideas, feelings, and emotions into tangible forms using whatever materials I could find. This creative drive motivated me to explore and experiment with various artistic techniques and mediums.
As my passion for art grew, I decided to further my skills and knowledge by pursuing formal education in visual arts. I enrolled at the Catholic University of Chile, where I was exposed to a whole new world of artistic possibilities. Through rigorous study and exposure to diverse art forms, art history, and contemporary practices, I gained a deeper appreciation for the art world and its immense capacity for communication and expression.
How would you describe your style? What makes your work special?
My artistic style can be best described as abstract expressionism. I am deeply drawn to the world of abstract art, where I find the freedom to explore and express my innermost thoughts and emotions. My work is characterized by a vibrant and bold use of colors, often juxtaposing bright shades with the stark contrast of black and white.
A prominent feature of my art is the consistent presence of lively colors, such as red, yellow, blue, green, orange, or magenta. These colors serve as a powerful means of conveying energy, emotions, and creating a dynamic visual experience for the viewers.
In some of my pieces, I choose to explore the beauty of monochromatic paintings, where a single color takes center stage, evoking a sense of simplicity and elegance. On the other hand, I also enjoy experimenting with different figures and forms, each adorned with a unique combination of colors.
What makes my work special is the unbridled passion I infuse into every brushstroke. My paintings are a reflection of my inner world, offering a glimpse into my thoughts and feelings translated onto the canvas. The blend of abstract expressionism and the harmonious interplay of colors create a captivating experience that encourages viewers to interpret and connect with the artwork in their own personal ways.
How do you go about developing your work?
As an artist with an abstract expressionist style, my creative process begins with a deep sense of inspiration drawn from within. Abstract art provides me with the freedom to explore and express my innermost thoughts and emotions, making it a natural choice for my artistic journey.
I start by conceptualizing ideas and themes that I want to convey through my art. I find inspiration from various sources, such as personal experiences, nature, and the vibrant world around me. This initial stage involves sketching rough outlines and creating thumbnail sketches to visualize the composition and layout of the artwork.
A crucial aspect of my work is the use of vibrant and bold colors, including red, yellow, blue, green, orange, or magenta, in contrast with black and white. These colors play a powerful role in conveying energy, emotions, and creating a dynamic visual experience for the viewers.
During the execution phase, I embrace experimentation and exploration. I allow my intuition and creativity to guide me, sometimes leading to unexpected and exciting elements in the artwork. Throughout the process, I'm open to making revisions and adjustments to refine the composition and ensure it aligns with my original vision.
Who or what influences you?
My work is influenced by a variety of factors and sources that inspire my creative process. The primary influence comes from within myself, as I am deeply drawn to the world of abstract art, which allows me the freedom to explore and express my innermost thoughts and emotions.
Abstract artists from various movements and periods have also had a significant impact on my artistic journey. The works of pioneers like Wassily Kandinsky, known as the father of abstract art, have left a lasting impression on me. His use of vibrant colors and non-representational forms has influenced my approach to color and composition.
Nature and the world around me serve as constant influences on my work as well. The ever-changing colors of the sky, the beauty of natural landscapes, and the complexity of human emotions all find their way into my art, helping me create dynamic and expressive pieces.
Make us curious. What is planned next?
Firstly, I plan to conduct in-depth research on various mediums suitable for creating 3D figures, particularly sculptures. This research will involve exploring traditional materials like clay and metal, as well as contemporary materials such as resin, fiberglass, or 3D printing techniques. Understanding the unique characteristics and possibilities of each medium will allow me to experiment and bring my artistic visions to life in three-dimensional forms.
I am also dedicated to continuing my research on color and composition. As an abstract expressionist artist, color and composition play pivotal roles in my work. I will delve into the theories and practices of renowned artists who have excelled in these areas. By studying their techniques and approaches, I aim to refine my skills and develop a deeper understanding of how color and composition can evoke emotions and enhance the visual impact of my artworks.
Lastly, I am thrilled to be preparing a collection for an upcoming exhibition in Dubai. This collection will be a cohesive representation of my artistic style and vision. I will curate and create artworks that align with a specific theme or concept, ensuring that each piece contributes to a compelling narrative or visual experience for the viewers.
