Polina Artiukh (born in Ukraine, in 1987), is a self-taught abstract painter, based in Kyiv. Graduated in Management and studying Philosophy. All her life she has been seek to cars and photography. Now she`s a professional motorsport event organizer, film camera photographer. According to the main field of her life, she paints just in one of the race track garages. Art is absolutely different life direction but she hopes it to be forever with her.Since when do you paint and what are your favorite motives?
I think about three years, since 2020. I enjoy mixing colors, forms and textures using different instruments to transmit the mood of the painting. I don`t like to paint by classic brushes and use various stuff mostly building spatulas.
And this year I`ve started to show the process of every painting so people can watch every stage as a series in my Instagram. It`s interesting even for me because every painting is so different at its start and in the final and nobody knows, what the result will look like.
When you create a new work, how do you proceed? What comes first?
Colors come first. I just choose several colors and canvas size, trying to listen to my subconscious mind. Then I turn on music, make matcha latte and just sit for some time staring at the canvas. When I feel I`m ready to start, I switch my camera on and make the first brushstroke. From what do you get your inspiration?
Every painting is about something definite - it depends every time – about person, story, emotion or situation. So, I get motivation from everything that surrounds me, from the whole World, life, people and their stories. It comes just from inside me.
Your life without art would be...
…not full enough. I really need it to run away from everything, because it`s like deep meditation for me. At that moment noting matters and nothing exists except the painting. What is the best art place in your city at the moment?
We have several good galleries in Kyiv, but they are so different that`s why I can`t choose only one. “Pinchuk Art Centre”, “M17 Contemporary Art Centre” and “Mystetskyi Arsenal” are good and quite famous, but we also have new cool galleries such as The Named Room and IZONE.Learn more about the artist:
