SuYeon (b. 1983, South Korea) is an artist and graphic designer living and working in Gothenburg, Sweden. She educated at an art high school and studied Visual Communication Design at a university in South Korea. After experiencing the grandeur and mystery of the unknown shapes and overwhelming sizes of abstract paintings, she fell in love with abstract art and is now painting artwork as a self-thought artist.Tell us your story, why did you become an artist?
Ever since I was young, I loved drawing. I always enjoyed creating something and did not want to stop. Painting has always been romancing in my life. In 2012, I moved to Gothenburg and was inspired a lot by this beautiful and warm city. My wish was to preserve my feeling and save it on canvas, so I picked up the brush again. Just like writing down the daily thoughts in a diary, I am recording my stories on canvas that I am receiving through my life.
When you create a new work, how do you go about it? What comes first?
I start by sketching my inspirations on a paper or tablet that I receive from beautiful spaces, plants and music etc. What can you tell us about your studio, what makes it special to you and how does it influence the way you work?
The studio is part of my living space which I have divided into a canvas workspace and a computer workspace, making it to the closest place where I can work at any time. It is a precious place that is fully decorated with my favorite plants and art frames. The studio is also a meaningful space that served as the motive for my artworks ‘EVERY SECOND’ and ‘MORNING SUN’.Is there a work of art in your life that has especially impressed you?
I love Egon Schiele’s line drawings, Van Gogh's flower paintings, Henri Matisse's color palette as well as oriental-style abstract paintings related to jars from Korean abstract artist Whanki Kim. I also really like all interiors in Carl Larsson's paintings.
Reach to the stars: where will you be in 5 years?
One of my plans is to participate in 2 international art fairs, but before that my priority goal is to transfer all sketches I have currently finalized to canvas within this year.Learn more about the artist:
