Eva Hjelte
”It’s like a spontaneous and intense energy that comes to me in the moment. My art is about emotions and impulses. I express my feelings with my brush strokes. I paint because I need to, it makes me feel alive.”
Eva Hjelte is driven by desire and passion when she paints. She captures the motion and rhythm that comes in the moment, with her bold gesture brush strokes against the fragile and paper-graphical fragments. She plays out the moment while focusing and holding on to her feeling. It’s when she sees something interesting that is awakened within her that gives her power. There is a recurring interest in the fragmentary nature that is central to her work. The fragility, the life of the wild, organic plant life that is inside her. The plant life she finds on her way carries with it a personal story and an energy that she is challenging. She paints both on paper and canvas and makes collages on canvas from leftover scraps from her works on paper.
Eva paints full-time and is born and works in Sweden. She has a long career as a professional illustrator behind her. Several of her most notable assignments as an illustrator have been to invite nature into open spaces – rooms where people meet, wait, work or just pass by. In banks, shops and offices. Eva has also received awards and nominations for her work.
